BOOMBOX is back [SAT.8/2] with hip hop legend FATLIP of The Pharcyde [DJ Set] + the long-awaited return of DMC World Champion CHRIS KARNS!!

A certified hip hop legend, FATLIP‘s signature vocal tone has graced some of the most beloved music to ever come out of Los Angeles. Starting out as a dancer in the late 80s, he joined The Pharcyde in 1989. Their debut album, 1992’s “Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde“, shook the hip hop world to its core showcasing a brand new sound coming out of Los Angeles with timeless classics like “Passin’ Me By” and “Ya Mama“. In 1995 their critically acclaimed follow-up, “Labcabincalifornia” featured some of the earliest production work from the late, great J Dilla, including hits like “Runnin” and “Drop“. Needless to say, on the strength of those 2 albums alone, The Pharcyde’s place in hip hop history is set in stone! In recent years FATLIP has rekindled his love of DJing with outstanding results. Not just another rapper turned DJ, his knack for selection and dancer beginnings combined with tireless work honing his skills have vaulted him to the top of our short list of MCs that can truly get down on the decks. We are extremely hyped to welcome him back for another exclusive DJ set!

The don CHRIS KARNS is an absolute turntable menace! A storied DJ battle heavyweight in the early 2000s under his “DJ Vajra” moniker, he captured the ultimate prize in 2011 taking down all competition to win the elusive DMC World DJ Championship title. Since then he’s gone on to take home 3 Red Bull Thre3Style wins as well as a second place finish on VH1’s “Master Of The Mix” television show. In 2014 he started his most recent venture as the official turntable musician/sample percussionist for the Pretty Lights live band, rocking stages like Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and Austin City Limits. A real-life scratch virtuoso and DJ icon, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome him back to our turntables for the first time in over 11 years!
