PAYBACK … WHO IS HE?
L.A. – based hip artist, producer, and lyricist, Payback released his debut EP, Who Is He?, July 1 via Robust Muzik/Black Drop Muzik Records. The EP is available for sale and download via several service providers.
The EP harkens back to the golden era of hip hop and ranges in tone and texture from braggadocio-filled boom bap bang to feel good, summertime vibes to sociopolitical commentary to spirituality. As one fan eloquently states, “Payback spits the type of mind elevating lyrics, bang, and dopeness that hip hop aficionados have been thirsting for.”
The EP features singles, “Get Up” and “Reflections”. “Get Up” touches the souls of those who have been affected by the recent racial reckoning and calls for social justice. With “Reflections”, the L.A. – born and Watts bred hip hopper and social philanthropist pays homage to his life’s journey over a smooth, jazzy, soul stirring track.
Payback is a member of the hip hop group, Black Drop originating from Los Angeles, CA. The members represent South LA, Watts, and Queens NY. Inspired by lyrical ingenuity, hard hittin’ & head bobbin’ tracks infused with vintage soul, jazz, and R&B music, this hip hop collective carries the hip hop torch in a way that celebrates it and pays homage to the innovators. As both a group and solo artists, Black Drop lyricists form a unique sound that appeals across the spectrum of hip hop generations.
