Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Cocktails and food available for purchase all night. \nRSVP to let us know you’re coming! \nOpen Mike Eagle\nWith over a dozen solo and collaborative projects to his name\, Open Mike Eagle has spent his career redefining and expanding the parameters of “art rap\,” the term he coined as a shorthand for leftfield and avant-garde rap music. On albums like ​Brick Body Kids Still Daydream ​and ​Dark Comedy​\, he delivered hilarious socio-political insights via half-sung verses laid atop progressive production. Acclaim from publications like ​Pitchfork\,​ ​Rolling Stone​\, and​ NPR​ has coincided with headlining solo tours and top-billing at events like Adult Swim Festival. Between studio sessions\, Eagle co-founded The New Negroes\, a standup-meets-music variety show that explores perceptions of blackness. He and co-founder Baron Vaughn brought the show to Upright Citizens Brigade\, Comedy Central\, and venues around the United States. \nJordan Patterson\nNorth Carolina-born and LA-raised\, Jordan Patterson is a singer\, songwriter\, and producer creating catharsis from an alternative landscape. Her music is genre-less by nature\, as Patterson tiptoes around a plethora of different styles\, sounds\, and emotions to reflect her experience as authentically and as holistically as possible. She has recorded with musicians cross-nationally\, working with producers from LA\, New York\, Atlanta\, and London. She has been featured in multiple media outlets\, including Rolling Stone\, Stereogum\, The Line of Best Fit\, Nina Protocol\, and has received attention from Spotify’s editorial curators who have featured Jordan on their Alt/Pop and New Music Friday Denmark playlists. Blunt\, raw\, and decisive\, Patterson is crafting a world through her music by inviting listeners to absorb the depth of her humanity and imagination. \nJ.Rocc\nOne of the original turntablists\, J.Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic\, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mid-’80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming\, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop\, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles. In addition to numerous mixtapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases\, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib’s live shows since the early 2000’s\, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group’s live events\, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla. J Rocc’s first album of his own original production\, Some Cold Rock Stuf\, was released in 2011. Since then\, he’s released solo albums A Wonderful Letter (2022) and Beatitudes (2023).

While his multiple full-length LPs\, 2007’s “The Day Before” and 2013’s “Land Of 1000 Chances“\, fully showcase his unique brand of “wistful yet funky” desert production vibes…his live sets\, especially the ones he’s dropped on us at Boombox\, crank the energy up to 11 and put his thunderous party-rocking sensibilities on full display. That mission is to find\, create\, and share amazing music. In 1984 he started DJing and producing hip hop and in 1996 he founded the now legendary Stones Throw Records. Via Stones Throw he’s put out some of the most influential albums and artists of our generation. Madlib\, J Dilla\, MF Doom\, Quasimoto\, Lootpack\, Dam-Funk\, Anderson .Paak\, Guilty Simpson\, Oh No\, Knxwledge\, Mndsgn\, the list is endless. His stellar 1999 solo LP\, “My Vinyl Weighs A Ton“\, was hugely influential on us during our formative years. All the while…he’s been buying records. He’s amassed a collection that’s truly the stuff of legend…as varied as it is massive. 8\,000+ of those records are now housed at his infamous Highland Park vinyl bar\, Gold Line\, which he opened in 2018. Last time he rocked at our “Boombox In The Park” event in 2022 he nearly cracked Levitt Pavillion into pieces! We are truly honored to have him back on our decks with an exclusive DJ set to help us celebrate this 19-year milestone! \n  \nHip hop pioneer BREAKBEAT LOU is one of the single most important people in the history of the genre. Starting out as a graffiti writer and b-boy in the Bronx in the early 70s\, he witnessed the birth of hip hop at park jams featuring the likes of Afrika Bambaataa\, Grandmaster Flash\, & Kool Herc. That’s when he knew he wanted to be a DJ. In 1980\, a chance meeting with “Breakbeat” Lenny Roberts at a record pool meeting spawned arguably the most important compilation series of all time. In an early 80s era when drum machines ruled the airwaves\, Lou & Lenny sought to put out records to help showcase the foundational breakbeats they heard at those original park jams. Ultimate Breaks & Beats\, and its predecessor Octopus Breaks\, did just that. Compiling and re-editing rare and iconic breakbeats from across the map\, these compilations introduced generations of young DJs to the foundations of hip hop. When producers like Marley Marl started sampling in the mid 80s\, these records became integral source material to pull from. To this day THOUSANDS of songs have sampled them and you’d be hard-pressed to find a producer that hasn’t used them or a DJ that doesn’t have multiple copies of them.
