GRAMMY Award nominated recording artist Musiq Soulchild returns to City National Grove of Anaheim on November 20. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 27 at 10:00 AM via Ticketmaster.com.
On the heels of his 7th studio album, Life on Earth, an album executive produced by multi-instrumentalist Warryn Campbell (Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Mary Mary, and DJ Quik), is a boundless evolution of an artist who for nearly 20 years has made a career out of confounding his critics while turning on followers to one of the most effortlessly smooth and adaptable voices of his generation. With a string of awards from Billboard, BET, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and an impressive 13 Grammy nominations under his belt, the multi-platinum Musiq Soulchild has always strived for musical progression.
After the public was all too ready to stamp the singer as the next big neo soul act following the immense success of his bouncy, omnipresent 2000 debut single “Just Friends (Sunny)” and its powerful follow-up ballad “Love”—which has since become a go-to millennial wedding anthem—Musiq flipped the proverbial script. He delivered a gorgeous 2002 cover of the 1968 Beatles’ pop-rock classic “Something,” showing off an understated range that managed to avoid look-at-me gimmickry.
Musiq has been honored with a number of awards, including Billboard Music Awards for “Best New Artist,” “Top R&B Artist,” “Top R&B Male” & “Top R&B Single,” the Soul Train Music Award for “Best R&B/Soul Single” and the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award for “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Song.
Musiq made a stellar Atlantic debut with LUVANMUSIQ, earning a trio of Grammy nominations as well as sales in excess of 700,000. The album – which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200– featured a streak of major hit singles, including “b.u.d.d.y,” “Makeyouhappy,” and the #1 smash, “Teachme,” which spent 15 weeks atop Billboard’s Urban AC airplay chart. ONMYRADIO followed in 2008, reaching the #1 spot on Billboard’s “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” chart in its second week out. The album received considerable critical praise, with special attention paid to the smash singles, “sobeautiful” and “IfULeave (Feat. Mary J. Blige).”
