Compton’s Own Kendrick Lamar Will Be Given The Key To His City
“Stuck a flag in my city, everybody’s screamin’ “Compton”, I should probably run for Mayor when I’m done, to be honest.”
Adding just a little bit more sugar to an already historic year, Kendrick Lamar will be given the key to his city, Compton, CA. The news arrived early this morning with a tweet from current mayor, Aja Brown, citing the artist’s commitment to the city and its betterment, waving the flag high for hometown from day 1.
The news comes in rather quick succession to his meeting with President Obama back in October and the eleven Grammy nominations he racked up for To Pimp A Butterfly (just one short of Michael Jackson’s 12 nom record.) And let’s not forget that Tonight Show premiere of “Untitled 2,” still sending shivers down the collective spine.
The tweet also includes the date February 13th, which we can only assume will be the day that the ceremony takes place, only 2 days shy of The Grammys and three days away from when J. Cole hinted that their collaborative album may drop on their tandem of Black Friday releases. So if you thought Kendrick Lamar had a strong 2015, just wait and see what this year holds for your boy.
