Following on the heels of Straight Outta Compton – a film which garners fresh appreciation for West Coast hip hop roots – the event will give thanks to artists who, while prolific themselves, boast collaborations with stars like Dre, 2Pac, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and countless others. In other words, it will be a family celebration.
The artists on this year’s bill play a key part in carrying forward the sound and story of those West Coast legends, even though not all are from Compton or even California. Platinum group Bone Thugs’ massive hit, “Tha Crossroads,” was dedicated to the memory of N.W.A.’s Eazy-E. DJ Quik also stands as one of hip hop’s most consistent artists and musicians, with four gold and platinum albums, and production work with 2Pac, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre to his credit. And, to top it off, dancehall darling Collie Buddz incorporates influences from hip hop to soca and reggae, in crafting his own unique take on the sound. All will throw down on this unforgettable night of reunion and good vibes.
