The BUILD Program and PCITI International Present “BUILDing Soldierettes,” Empowering Women Through Leadership, Discipline and Purpose
LOS ANGELES, CA — The BUILD Program and PCITI International are proud to announce BUILDing Soldierettes, an empowering workshop designed to equip women with the leadership skills, discipline, purpose, emotional intelligence, and confidence needed to become stronger leaders within their families, workplaces, and communities.
Taking place August 29, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1409 West Vernon Ave., Los Angeles, CA, the workshop will welcome women of all ages and backgrounds for an interactive experience centered on leadership, purpose, discipline, and alignment.
BUILDing Soldierettes reflects the BUILD Program’s continued commitment to developing leaders and creating safer, healthier, and more connected communities through education, mentorship, personal development, and community engagement.
The workshop is being presented under the continued leadership of Halimah Basheer, Executive Director of the BUILD Program, following the leadership transition from her father, renowned community violence intervention pioneer Dr. Aquil Basheer.
A public health professional, behavioral health specialist, and community violence intervention leader, Halimah Basheer brings extensive experience in program management, clinical supervision, behavioral therapy, and public safety initiatives. Her leadership builds upon the foundation established by her father while expanding BUILD’s work to reach and empower the next generation of community leaders.
“BUILDing Soldierettes is about recognizing the power women have to lead, influence, build, and transform the communities around them,” said Halimah Basheer. “Leadership requires discipline, purpose, emotional intelligence, and alignment. We want women to understand that they do not have to compete with men to be powerful leaders. We can stand alongside one another in partnership, strengthening our families and communities together.”
The workshop will explore how women can cultivate greater clarity around their purpose while developing the discipline and leadership skills necessary to navigate personal, professional, and community challenges. Participants will have opportunities to engage with leaders, mentors, and community professionals while connecting with other women committed to personal growth and community transformation.
BUILDing Soldierettes is also designed to reinforce the importance of partnership over competition. The program encourages women to recognize their unique strengths and leadership abilities while building collaborative relationships with men and other community stakeholders.
The initiative builds upon the BUILD Program’s broader mission of “putting the public back in public safety” by investing in people, strengthening families, developing community leaders, and creating pathways for individuals to become active participants in building safer and more resilient communities.
The BUILD Program was founded by Dr. Aquil Basheer, a pioneering figure in community violence intervention whose work has focused on addressing violence through prevention, mentorship, behavioral intervention, community engagement, and the development of community-based leadership. Under Halimah Basheer’s leadership, BUILD continues to evolve while remaining grounded in the principles of service, accountability, discipline, healing, leadership, and community transformation.
“BUILDing Soldierettes is another opportunity to invest in people,” Basheer added. “When women are equipped with the tools to lead with purpose, discipline and intelligence, the impact extends far beyond the individual. It reaches families, organizations, neighborhoods, and entire communities.”
Attendees can expect an engaging afternoon featuring leadership development, mentorship, personal growth, community engagement, networking, and interactive programming designed to encourage women to identify their purpose, strengthen their discipline, and step confidently into leadership.
